After a slow start Autumn has finally arrived. We have been having very mild weather with warm days but the last couple of weeks the nights have got cool, down to single figures most nights. The result is the sudden appearance of autumn leaves. What was green only a couple of weeks ago is gold and red.

A couple of weeks ago I posted some photos of the flowers on a Hong Kong Orchid tree. When the flowers finish these seed pods appear. They are about the size of a broad bean. The seeds are good too as lots of seedlings will appear around the tree.

We have lost a few trees in our yard over the last couple of years. I thought this one was going to join them last year but some well timed rain has saved it. I'm not even sure what it is called, a friend calls it a Hong Kong Orchid tree. Does any one know?

This week has brought some much needed rain to the east coast of Australia. As often happens some areas have received far too much. Some low lying land is still inundated. There will be much more green this year than for many years.
