I haven't posted anything here for a while. Not intentional, just got out of the habit of doing it I guess. I have visited regularly, not that that compensates for not posting anything. Still get out taking photos when I can but not as often as I would like.
Here is a couple of shots taken recently at an Antique Machinery Show. I mainly took photos of vehicles as that is what interests me.
I liked the shapes in this one.
This is the Chevrolet truck that featured in the main photo.
One of my favourite American cars of the 60's and 70's was the Pontiac GTO. This one is a regular visitor to the Oakville Car Show.
Some, OK most, custom car owners are never happy with their car. So they are always making changes. Last year there was no silver sides.
In the comments on my last post I mentioned the Ford XC Cobra. One of the most under-rated and one of my favourite Aussie cars. Supposedly produced to clear the last of the two door coupe body shells Ford had. Not an out and out performance "racer for the road" like the earlier GTs more a luxurious high performance cruiser. The 5.8 (or 351 in cubic inches) gave effortless performance and like the whole XC range it felt smaller than it was. In Ford tradition you get any colour you wanted as long as it was white and blue. It was a limited edition and all cars carried a number on the dash. There are a few fakes, I mean "replicas" around.
I dug out these shots I took nearly a year ago so those not familiar with it can see what we were talking about.
it is still a stunning machine. The Ford GT40 is one of those mythical machines. If you see one there is a one in a 1000 chance it is real. This one is a replica, it even has a Holden engine!

At the other end of the scale in terms of size is the Lincoln Continental Mark IV
I posted a photo of a Lloyd Hartnett the other day. This was taped to the window.
There was a time a few years ago when it was common for modified cars to have extensive graphics. It is not so common to see them now. They were rare though on standard cars. Here is a Volkswagen Beetle Turbo which is almost standard apart from the paint.
For something a little different here is a Lloyd Hartnett. It was made in Australian based on a German design.
Today I visited a local car show. It was held at the Pitt Town Sports Club and was to raise funds for the Oakville Rural Fire Service. For non NSW readers, the Rural Fire Service is a volunteer organisation. It is government funded but only for absolute necessities. Additional funds must be raised by the volunteers. The RFS is important as it provides the only fire fighting and other emergency services in many rural areas. Each state in Australia has a similar organisation but with different names.
It was good to get out with the camera again. That is something I haven't done for far too long. There were several rare or unusual vehicles on display ranging from hot rods to race cars to classics and too some special daily drivers. So here are a few shots.
As it is a fund raiser for the RFS it is only fitting to have a view of the Fire Trucks.
I'll post some more photos as I sort them out.
There was a time when every vehicle had a bonnet mascot. It often was the builders emblem but it may have been an after market piece added by the owner to personalise his ride. With safety regulations, desire for aerodynamic efficiency and vandalism they have almost disappeared with the exception of a few luxury brands. Something a little special has been lost.
Always promoted as Australia's own car the Holden has been part of Australian culture since the release of the first model in 1948. It should come as no surprise that there is an "All Holden Day" to celebrate the marque. It actually is spread over 2 days (Ford fans will not be surprised that that GM fans don't know the difference between a day and a weekend!) with a swap meet one day and the show on the Sunday.
It was a busy event and getting good photos was difficult. There was none of the freedom to take your time as I could at the ute muster a couple of weeks ago.
